Global Professional Development Opportunities
International Experiences
Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms - Educators from the United States learn how to bring an international perspective to their classrooms through professional development, an international field experience, and global collaboration. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, this year-long program is for K-12 educators. Read about my experiences in the program at my website Globalize Education: Learn, Grow, Connect.
Brussels Study Tour of the EU - 5-day trip to Brussels, Belgium, to learn about the European Union. Sponsored by University of Pittsburgh's European Studies Center and the Center for European Studies at the University of North Carolina, and funded by a Getting to Know Europe grant from the EU Delegation to the U.S., and funding from Center's National Resource Centers grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Participants create lesson plans and modules for teaching Europe in the K-16 classroom. I wrote my lesson plans on the EU Single Market.
International Collaboration
TED - Transatlantic Educators Dialogue - Collaboration between educators from the European Union and the United States, for shared exploration of educational topics. Cohorts meet virtually on Sundays for conversation and collaboration.
Alumni TED - Transatlantic Educators Dialogue - After participating in your initial year of TED, you can apply to continue as an alumnus. During my first year in Alumni TED, my small group collaborated on our website Peace Education, a collection of resources for teaching about peace. During my second year, my small group started a Global Educator Reading Group.
TCAB - Teachers Collaborating Across Borders - Inspired by the TED program above, this online program is for educators in the United States and the Middle East/North Africa. Participants engage in international dialogue and virtual exchange classroom projects.
